The AEC Mural & Patio Project is a collaboration between House of Morrow (HoM) and Flint Hills Technical College Adult Education Center (AEC), designed to create a vibrant and welcoming space for adult learners. The project began in October 2023 and is set to be completed by September 12, 2024. Under the leadership of Vicki Schweinler, Director of Adult Education at AEC, HoM worked with the AEC to improve the center’s facilities using a combination of AEC funding and personal contributions from House of Morrow. The improvements included the installation of flowerbeds, a pergola, and the creation of a public mural, all intended to transform the learning environment into a more inviting and inspiring place. These updates were carefully chosen to enhance the space and create a comfortable atmosphere for those utilizing the AEC’s services.

FOR THE ADULT LEARNERS AT THE CENTER
The project reflects House of Morrow’s mission to empower underserved communities by combining public art and community services to foster a sense of belonging and opportunity. This initiative is significant to the target audience, which primarily includes individuals working towards earning their high school diploma, learning English, developing job skills, or exploring new career paths. By creating a beautiful and relaxing space, the project helps support AEC’s programs such as GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Basic Education. This aligns with HoM’s goal of promoting public service and art as tools to enrich the community and empower historically excluded populations. The AEC Mural & Patio Project not only provides a space for learning but also serves as a symbol of transformation and community support, with the timeline extending through September 2024 to fully realize its potential.
